Geographic Calculators

Convert coordinates, measure distances, and calculate sunrise & sunset times with precise, standards-based algorithms.

Frequently Asked Questions

What coordinate formats are supported?

We support Decimal Degrees (DD), Degrees Minutes Seconds (DMS), and Degrees Decimal Minutes (DDM). All formats can be converted to each other.

How accurate is the distance calculator?

The distance calculator uses the Haversine formula which accounts for Earth's curvature. Accuracy is within 0.3% for most distances.

What is MGRS?

Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) is a geocoordinate standard used by NATO militaries. It provides a way to designate positions using alphanumeric characters.

What is UTM?

Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) divides Earth into 60 zones, each 6° wide. It provides coordinates in meters for easting and northing within each zone.

How are sunrise/sunset times calculated?

We use the NOAA solar position algorithm which accounts for the equation of time, solar declination, and atmospheric refraction for accurate results.
